One of the challenges that we had at Year 7 camp was to see if we could catch some fish for our dinner. We started by having some fishing training from Mr Quelch from the balcony at our camp site. He taught us how to cast our lines, but all we caught was gravel! Next stop was the Busselton Jetty (which is around 2 km long) for some real fishing. It was a battle between the boys and the girls as to who could catch the most fish and the girls won. Even I caught a fish but it was so small that we had to throw it back. So, that night, we didn’t have fish and chips for dinner – just pasta!Ìý

During the camp, we visited the Ngilgi Caves and experienced the Koomal Dreaming indigenous tour. We started our camp at the caves, where we saw amazing stalactites forming from the roof. We also saw stalagmites which form from the ground. Every 100 years the stalactites and stalagmites grow a centimetre longer. We learnt that the cave forms naturally over thousands of years and the depth was 47 metres below ground level. The second activity involved a hike above the caves, and we learnt about indigenous tools,Ìý how indigenous people survived and how to make fire (which was difficult) out of sticks. We were also informed about incredible plants and bushes that are used to heal cuts naturally. I found this camp exciting and educational.

The High Ropes Course was one of the best parts of the camp. There were lots of different courses, each with a different level. In the courses there were a few challenges. Some were hard and some were easy. They varied from ziplines to snowboarding and even tightropes. Overall, it was really fun and everyone liked it.

On the second day of camp, we did Yallingup hike across rocks and paths. We started the day by looking at a stream of flowing water then we started the 5 kilometre hike. After we walked on a trail in the rocks, we went down and walked along a beach where we were allowed to walk near the water and get wet. Then we had to clean off the sand and walk along another trail. At the end of the hike we swam in a lagoon/beach. Altogether we had a whole lot of fun and a great day.
