Every year JNF is grateful for Carmel’s High School students who assist with the Green Sunday telethon. This year was no different as students from years 7 – 12 gathered at the Jewish Centre to phone our community and help raise funds to plant thousands of security trees on kibbutzim near the Gaza border.

After last year’s Gaza attack on Israel, this year’s Green Sunday appeal was the ideal opportunity for our community to raise funds for security tree planting to protect the vulnerable kibbutzim of Holit, Sufa and Kerem Shalom, located only 1.5 kms from the Gaza border.

Trees provide a buffer to absorb shrapnel and disrupt a missile’s trajectory, directing the explosion away from populated areas of the kibbutz, as well as conceal homes and roads from a sniper’s view. As a national effort, JNF Australia aims to plant 27,000 trees which will form a natural protective barrier for these communities.

Thank you to the students who gave their time to phone the community and help raise funds for this important project in Israel.ÌýJNF equally thanks the Perth community for donating to this important campaign and doing their part to help protect the vulnerable kibbutzim on Israel’s Southern border.
